How Gluten Causes Defective Absorption

The problem of inadequate absorption of nutrients which is referred to as malabsorption, may be generalized, affecting most nutrients, or it may be specific to a particular nutrient- for example, iron. Malabsorption conditions may be mild and of short duration, or more severe and chronic. One defect causing this is a defective absorption of the small intestines.

The small intestines’ major adaptations to absorption are its large surface are and its epithelial transport and enzyme systems. Any interference with these processes compromises the absorptive capabilities of the small bowel, and malabsorption results. One condition widely known is gluten sensitive enteropathy – a disease in the intestine which is also known as celiac disease or celiac sprue.

Those affected with the condition react to gluten, the protein component of wheat, rye, and barley; thus, patients are required to follow a lifelong gluten free diet. The underlying problem is immune-mediated damage to intestinal epithelia that results in loss of villi (finger-like projections that increase the absorption capabilities of the intestinal wall) and compromised absorption. The reason for this sensitivity to gluten seems to have a genetic component and a link to early childhood viral infection. It may be that components of the virus to which the immune system responds have structural similarity to gluten, so after the usually sub-clinical infection, exposure to dietary gluten trigger the immune system’s attack on the epithelial cells involved in its absorption.

Because of the decreased area of absorption in small bowel, the body is unable to absorb fats, fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, and K, minerals and some protein and carbohydrates. This could lead to various vitamins and minerals deficiency. Usually, the affected individual is provided by the dietitian with gluten free food list that is acceptable to one’s preferences. This is important since the small intestinal mucosa will always respond abnormally to dietary gluten. The elimination of gluten from the diet gradually restores intestinal structure, and more normal absorption soon follows.

Juicer Recipes for Cancer

Filed under: Nutrition — Tags: — admin @ 6:29 am

There are many people today turning to alternative methods to help them beat cancer in conjunction with regular medicine. One of these methods is juicer recipes for cancer. Juicer recipes are loaded with antioxidants that protect cells from oxidation damage and possibly help against the damaging effects of radiation. Antioxidants are also a great boost to the immune system, therefore helping the body to heal itself. However some fruits and vegetables are richer in antioxidants than others, and in the fight against cancer we need to choose the most nutritious produce. This brings us to dark leafy greens such as spinach, kale and collard greens. The darker green a vegetable is the more of the chlorophyll antioxidant it contains, and chlorophyll is one of the more powerful anti-cancer plant substances. These dark leafy greens are a great source of other antioxidants too, including beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin. These greens don’t taste the best juiced, but if you add an apple or two to the mix it helps sweeten things up.

Reading All Sorts of Noni Juice Testimonials

Filed under: Nutrition — Tags: — admin @ 9:43 pm

Maybe we’re all going about this whole juice thing, the wrong way. The way we may want to proceed with all of this, may actually be to do a little something different. In the end, we may want to try to do this a little bit differently. This may actually involve and take something else completely off base. There are these other Noni juice testimonials, and you can definitely read through those, but you will want to try to do something else. Look, we’re all trying to get to the truth and the heart of the matter, but we’re not going to get that done, if we can’t actually do this well; we all want to do the right thing, and we can’t do that if we don’t have the right sort of information. This is what we’re talking about; it’s something we’ve been talking about for so long, at this point.

My Reactions to the Play Much Ado About Nothing

Filed under: Nutrition — Tags: — admin @ 11:52 am

Personal development junkies, like myself, are often fans of Shakespear’s works. The following is my reactions to the play Much Ado About Nothing.

This play kind of a resurrected my thought patterns and respect for Shakespeare. I had a totally sour taste in my mouth from the previous play and Much Ado About Nothing put a little sugar in my mouth to balance the sour. In this play Shakespeare creates one of his most witty and memorable characters in Beatrice. Beatrice is Leonato’s niece and Hero’s cousin. Beatrice is “a pleasant-spirited lady” with a very sharp tongue. She is generous and loving, but, like Benedick, continually mocks other people with elaborately tooled jokes and puns. She wages a war of wits against Benedick and often wins the battles. At the outset of the play, she appears content never to marry. The fact that Beatrice is one of Shakespeare’s smartest characters and she is a woman told me that maybe Shakespeare really did respect women. I really don’t know what Shakespeare was thinking when he wrote The Taming of the Shrew because in every other one of his plays there is usually a women character that is a respectable, witty, independent, person. Not some “shrew” that needs to be “tamed.” I’m glad that we read this play next, and I’m really glad that we didn’t read Merchant of Venice next because I seriously would have wanted to drop the class. But after all, even if I don’t agree with it I can still listen and learn because Knowledge is Power.

Masticating Juicer Machines

Filed under: Nutrition — Tags: — admin @ 10:58 pm

People don’t realize this about fiber, but fiber isn’t just the chewy stalks of stuff that don’t taste like anything. (We’re talking to you, celery.) Fiber, the kind that cleans out your pipes from the insides, is very small. It can be in juices believe it or not. And sometimes, the best way to get some fiber is through juices. Have you heard of pulp? This is fiber. There are these masticating juicer machines, right. And what they do is they get things down to a juice, no matter how fibrous the stuff is. And that’s all good, because when you do this, it really doesn’t take any effort in getting the stuff down. Juicing is sort of like making a mix tape. It’s easy. Everybody can do it. And it’s super easy to appreciate. You throw some stuff in there, see how it goes. And if you totally blow, at worst case, you can just toss the stuff. You wouldn’t have burned a whole inventory of produce.
